Self-catering groups

The house is ideal for self-catering group stays or away days for up to 10 people – for example for meditation retreats, writing or music workshops.  By using the house in this way, group participants are also helping to finance Sanctuary Breaks.

We ask all visitors to help with the cleaning and daily care of the house, so we can keep rates low and enable a wide range of visitors to enjoy the space.  It is also possible to spend time at the house in partial or full exchange for work on the house or garden.

There is wheelchair access to the ground floor.

Apart from day visits, the house is not suitable for families with toddlers.

Individual stays

If you would like to come for an individual retreat for a few days mid-week, we can make arrangements to suit you. There may be some work going on around you in the house or garden, which you could join in with or not as you choose. We are happy to accept work-exchange stays as well.

We ask all visitors to help with the cleaning and daily care of the house, so we can keep rates low and enable a wide range of visitors to enjoy the space.

Hill House

Hill House is situated in a delightful Cotswold village on the edge of Minchinhampton Common.

There are five double, twin or triple bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 comfortable reception rooms, a spacious dining room, a well-equipped modern kitchen, and a large garden. The garden specialises in some huge and unusual trees. At present the house does not easily lend itself to wheelchair access. It is also not suitable for groups of young children.

Beautiful Cotswold walks outside the door take you across Minchinhampton Common to the Cotswold village of Minchinhampton or you can walk into the wild garlic-filled woods down the hill below the house, Nailsworth is within walking distance too (a steep hill tho!) where you will find independent shops (Hobbs Bakery, Williams Kitchen, The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop) and plentiful restaurants and cafes. Stroud is famous for its Farmers Market held every Saturday. And the village of Amberley has a wonderful community cafe and shop, with a visiting mobile bakery (Salt Bakehouse) on Tuesdays.
